  2. Spies Are Watching Me (Africaine 808 remix) (5:55)
  3. On Te L'Avait Dit (Dimitri From Paris Super Disco dub) (6:37)
Review: Last year, Patchworks man Bruno Havart indulged his long-held love of Afro-disco via a fine album under the Violaa alias. Here, Africaine 808 and Dimitri From Paris take it in turn to remix tracks from that set. The latter serves up two epic interpretations of album title track "On Te L'avait Dit". There's a full Disco Blend, in which he carefully teases out the track by layering up the original production before unleashing the catchy vocal, and a pleasingly percussive, groove-driven Dub. Interestingly, Africaine 808's mix of previous single "Spies Are Watching Me" sticks fairly close to the original, craftily emphasizing Havart's percussion, punchy horns and rich, Afro-disco bass.

The dome allows you to quickly place a 45 RPM record on your player yet unlike spider adapters the dome still allows you to hold the record safely with 2 fingers by the large inner hold and outer edge. Also considered much easier to use than the standard 'hockey puck' design adapter.

Review: Cheeky under-the-counter business here with no names attached... Sia and Sean Paul's huge 2016 smash "Cheap Thrills" gets a rolling subby fix-up that works way better through the speakers than it does in any description. Flip for a classical rewind as Jill Scott's sublime "It's Love" gets the treatment, contemporising the massiveness of Falcon & Dreazz's 2001 historic with more modern soulful twist. Instant dancefloor charmer.

Review: Never the most hell-raising or fiercely innovative band on the scene, Real Estate nonetheless have made a name for themselves for simply sticking to one paradigm - that of bright and deliriously melodic indie-rock - and doing it with so much charm and skill that it would be churlish to criticise. Well hold the front page, they're back again, and still doing that same old fabulous thing, with guitars never more rich in their jangly filigree nor harmonies more heavenly. Drifting along a continuum that starts with Big Star and takes in Teenage Fanclub and R.E.M. on the way, 'In Mind' remains the sonic equivalent of a cool drink of water on a sunny day.

Review: Young Brighton producer Slacker (no not the legendary progressive house act of the same name) aka Sam Black is up next on Lobster Theremin following up great releases by Asok, nthng and Unfinished Portraits. He's channelling the jungle vibes of yesteryear (think Peshay) on the classic euphoria of "Amen To The Lonely" while acid house/Summer of Love aesthetics are channeled convincingly on "See Yourself" and capturing that classic Lobster Theremin tape saturated vibe. On the flip, it's all about the deep 303 therapy of "White Monk" where he works that little silver Roland box to the max, powered away by dusty 808 drum patterns beneath.

Review: The second version instalment that explores Kuti student Sosimi's 2015 album You No Fit Touch Am, Wah Wah have recruited more innovators to take fresh perspectives on Dele's crisp Afrobeat. DJ Khalab mirrors the guitars with rising synth textures that sit subtly in the background adding more tension that's released with a brilliant blunt bass hook. O Flynn adds just a little dubby disco charm to "E Go Betta" while Books gives "I Don't Care" a serious twist as it intros with swooshing Hidden Orchestra style breaks before dipping into a chugging house stomp. Bopperson closes on a slow smouldering note, creating more space around the Dele's beautiful instrumentation. Refixes fit to touch.

Review: Given the underground acclaim heaped on Marie Davidson's previous albums - ultra-stylish affairs that blend elements of minimal wave, dark Italo-disco, off-kilter electro and moody ambient - it's little surprise to see her popping up on Minimal Wave offshoot Cititrax. The album's nine tracks are largely sharp, rough and fuzzy, with sparse-but-dense drum machines rhythms underpinning bouncy, delay-laden synth lines, thrusting electronics and Davidson's sleazy, spoken word vocals. It's an attractive combination that guarantees thrills throughout, from the almost claustrophobic throb of "Denial", to the mutant electrofunk bounce of "Good Vibes".

Move Your Body/Hall Of Mirrors: Perc & Truss Remixes

  1. Move Your Body (6:32)
  2. Hall Of Mirrors (6:13)
Review: Originally released in 2015 on Bristol's Tectonic, these two tracks by UK grime/bass experimentalists Mumdance and Logos caused quite a frenzy in their original, abrasive formats. But if that was not enough, industrial techno experts Perc and Truss have thought it suitable to step in and inject them with more power and aggression on these two nasty pasties and all we can recommend is: strap yourself in for a wild ride! The clang and clatter of the original version of "Move Your Body" is all there, but powered by an industrial strength four to the floor groove that will shake the walls of any dark strobe-lit warehouse party in Berlin or Bristol alike. The more minimal and stripped back "Hall Of Mirrors" is full of dark energy, with its overdriven kick, harsh metallic texture strikes and bouncy synth grumbles taking you straight to hell.

Review: For the sophomore installment of their various artists series, Watergate Affairs, the Berlin clubbing institution brings you three heroes of the capital's scene. Legend Ruede Hagelstein presents the deep and emotive "Flash Ball" that meets at the intersection between tech house and nu disco with its powerful chords hypnotizing you into submission. Next up Hamburg duo Adana Twins serve up the slinky and bumping dancefloor atmosphere of "Eta"; a suspense filled dark journey track and another local stalwart in the form of Marco Resmann provides the tough main room ecstasy of "Modius". Souvenir Records head honchos Tiefschwarz also step in to give you thre rather Innervisions sounding "Backyard" which ia a druggy moody late night cut that's geared for some proper strobe-lit epiphanies on the club's famous dancefloor next Sunday morning.

Both compositions weighing in over 15 minutes, they're experiences which challenge form and convention; "Pulse" ripples with its namesake, a texture that buzzes and drones in endless waves while "High" mutates a warmer, grainer tone with dizzying effect.

Review: IO man Aleksandr Voznichenko once again dons the MOI guise for another trip into deep house/tech-house fusion. There's much to admire on this sixth self-released EP, beginning with the spacey pads, woozy chord progressions, New Jersey-influenced beats and rich bass of "Track 1". The flipside "Track Two" sounds like a riff on the same core elements, though the drum programming - and in particular the more electronic sounding cymbal lines - feel far more in-keeping with tech-house than the more swinging A-side. The swirling, cyclical chords and bubbly electronic noises dotted throughout the track only enhance the aural flavour.

Now Best Records have turned back the clock to disco's golden hour to reissue the Gepy & Gepy classic on pristine wax. While the A-side title track is a timeless gem on its own, it's the impassioned club burner "African Love Song" that will have the diggers rejoicing. From its days as a staple in Studio 54 it's been a sought after gem, and now it's back in circulation for those that know.

What comes across is how consistent the sound is, whenever an individual jam was made. The same heavy-lidded melodics and easy-funking rhythm sections prevail across all nine cuts here, at times hitting the uplifting pace of "Vertigo" or heading into the meditative pastures of "Sea Bird", but always maintaining that quintessential Vibraphone feeling. The diggers will be happy to snag the reissued tracks as well as discovering completely fresh material from Rome's premier deep house institution.

Review: Naturally, the Mork labels swaps and borrows artists from its parent label, Lobster Theremin, but this shouldn't take away the fact that the imprint very much focusses on its own quality of techno. Unlike LT, Mork has a much darker, techno-laden approach to club music, and Royer seems like the perfect associate to make the jump into the shadows. "Classe2 (Simple Version)" opens the doors to a moody yet noticeably soulful assortment of pads and grainy house rhythms, which fall elegantly into the even more lo-fi landscapes of "D'orr22". On the flip, the latter tune receives a sun-kissed, 'Sunday Lit Refaax' version, adding yet more analogue mystique to the original cut, which leaves "Healyrslfw Lee" to take a trip down greener pastures, and what we like to call 'beach house' vibes. Lovely stuff.

Review: Sexing up the dance with every edit and beat he presents, Parisian Onra does it again with two hazy, slo-mo RnB renditions. Loopy, filtered, woozy and loaded with a warm soul feel that's so rich it almost flops over the drums, there's a real finesse at play as "Every Little Thang" struts with a great swagger as the kicks and vocal match each other's off-beat mood. Meanwhile on the B, "Just Can't Get Enuff" is just a smidgeon more upbeat and enshrouded in balmy pads and cleverly layered vocal loops. We can't get enough of this.

Certainly, this first 12" for Secretsundaze is full of playable treats. Opener "6AM" uses tribal-influenced drum rhythms, mutilated vocal samples and moody electronics to create a dark and hypnotic early morning mood, while "Herb" is a perfect fusion of trippy broken house rhythms, hazy minor key refrains and weighty dub bass. Arguably best of all, though, is "Mile High", a superbly emotional deep house epic full of crystalline chord progressions, sweeping synth-strings and immaculately programmed percussion.

In that time, the label has put out some memorable material, including essential 12" singles from Telephones, Khidja and Fantastic Man. The time seems right, then, for Paramida to step up and deliver her first EP for the label. Tehran Bomb also marks the start of a new, occasional re-edit series. She begins with the intoxicating late night throb of "Beyond Katovl", where fluttering vocal samples and psychedelic electronics ride a bombastic, high-energy groove. It's a muscular affair, all told, but strangely intoxicating. Flipside "Ms Bombastic" sees Paramida reworking an early house workout, cleverly emphasizing the original track's surging percussion and killer bassline.

Review: Previously found lurking around W.T. "Tarantella" is a mind-bending workout whichever angle you approach from, all psyched-out synth lines and brooding rhythms, and then "Poison High" rears up on the flip with its even more transcendental tones. Black Merlin is a wise choice to tackle the title track for a remix, making an equally tense and tribalistic workout that puts the wayward spirit back into the machine.

Review: 22a/Eglo alumni, Henry Wu and Jamal Banton complement each other with every spacious, measured groove. The power is evident from the supreme jazz funk of "T-Slap Biz" - show us a body that isn't popping when this drops and you're playing the wrong parties. "2011" techs us up to a notch with an UR style pace and trippiness while "Natural" is 100% 22a soul, all loose limbed, warm, harmonic and fuzzy. "Dutty Dubz" tips a nod to the deep foundations of Dego and Marc Mac with its jazzy breakbeat introspection and "Street Brukka" brings us home with woozy far-away trumpets, shuffling swinging drums and chord washes that are up there with Iz & Diz's legendary "Mouth." Stunning.

Review: Set up as a continuation of their podcast back in 2008, this Russian label joins the dots between jazz various genres. Footwork House Jam no.1 is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous Moscow-based club night in particular. The idea behind this compilation 'is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on' the label claims. Starting off on the A side with Baltimore legend Karizma and his jagged groove therapy session titled "Church Chords" there's more quality with Brit Nubian Mindz with the glitched out disco house of "Check Da Discotheque" which will contort you even more with its nifty beat repeat effects. On the flip is Intr0beatz with the sexy late night deep house of "That DUB" where he goes for that timeless formula of emotive chords, swing fuelled rhythms and sampled diva vocals to full effect.. but wait for that bassline to drop, like seriously! Finally, Dopeness Galore darling Jacob Otten aka Kid Sublime drops the soulful and life affirming broken beat nu-jazz experiment "Wings Of Love".

Review: It's been a while since the Albion stable graced our platters, but they're back in style with more of that on-point house music voodoo for the heat of the night. This single is a vessel for the various sides of Tommi Vicari Jr, who rolls out his Czevski alias to deliver a bruising remix of "57 Hertz" by 76-79. It's a reverb-soaked, dubbed out affair with a rock solid rhythm section and plenty of trippy FX tweaking on top. On the flip it's a different story with a similar feeling as we get the straight up Tommi Vicari Jr material in the shape of two killer tracks crafted for transcendental moments of dancefloor hypnosis.

Review: Legendary gospel funk record from 1982 on Tennessee label Champ: Andrew Wartts & The Gospel Singers created something magic here, and the hefty price tags for original pressings (even though they had an infamously poor cut) back it up. Anywhere you drop the needle you'll strike gold... The Hathaway-style spoken word on "Rich Man Poor Man", the hip-swinging walking blues bassline and swooning harmonies of "Can You Say Yeah?", the grainy organ blasts and rattling snare on "One Day In Paradise" and the overwhelming drive of "None Greater Than John", the whole album is a serious work of beauty and soul.

Review: Unknown To The Unknown spreads its wings with a new sublabel dedicated specifically to jacking house jams for proper white-knuckle party times. Steven BC turns the acid intensity up to 11 with the devastatingly on-point "Flanger Zone", while Mall Grab reaches for a classic bit of disco funk to sample and filter mercilessly. Lawrence Lee meanwhile opts for a playful, budget take on Eastern electro on "Pyongyang Rhythm" before Jeremy Castillo and Vin Sol return to primal Trax Records territory for "Beat Dat". It's a release that marks House Crimes out as a natural descendant from UTTU's irreverent approach to dance music, without compromising on the quality.

Review: Following releases from Senzala and Taymor Zadeh, Mr KS fires up his Gran Canarian label once more for some heady underground grooves, this time with Notik at the helm. "Canary Music" takes the lead on the A-side with a percussion-focused production that samples The Usual Suspects to great effect while keeping things minimal and functional. "Benzons" is equally restrained in its execution, with the subtlest of synth touches hovering between the drums, making this a perfect DJ tool for strung out extended DJ sets. "Zape" meanwhile works a little more melody into the mix for an immersive end to the record, maintaining the stripped down house groove amidst the pad tones.

Review: The raucous Unknown To The Unknown sublabel House Crime strikes up its third misdemeanour with some help from down under. DJ Boneyard, sometimes spotted moonlighting as Aries, first appeared on Hound Recordings with the Gutter Trax and now he returns with some gnarly machine grot to get the sinister side of the dance shaking in all the right places. There's a rowdy acid tint to "Wake In Fright", while "Veritas (Gutter Mix)" takes a more creepy approach with its growling bass tones. "Original" however makes no bones about its appropriation of classic house motifs, all warm piano chords, sustained strings and basic drum jack. "That's Right" meanwhile strikes directly on a Dance Mania vein and mines it hard.
