  1. Ethereal (6:29)

  3. Bliss (6:35)
  4. Crepuscolar Ray (5:48)
Review: YAY Recordings recently decided to launch the 3n0 sub-label in order to promote the work of new and emerging producers. Fittingly, the imprint's first release also marks the debut of Gianluca Casnici, a young producer who has been DJing at YAY events for some time. He hits the spot immediately, with the brilliant "Ethereal" sounding like a lost link between classic Detroit techno, Larry Heard and Italian dream house. Elsewhere, he drops a fine chunk of spooky, acid-fired techno/electro fusion ("Brume"), goes mad in the studio with a TB-303 and a few choice synths (the wonderfully eccentric "Bliss") and expertly combines elements of British bleep, early Italian techno and deep house (standout "Crepuscular Ray").

  1. Woman (vocal) (5:11)
  2. Woman (instrumental slow) (5:14)
Review: Although fairly well known these days thanks to appearances on a number of bootleg EPs and compilations, Mirage's 1983 debut single is still regarded as a "lost" cosmic disco classic. As this officially licensed reissue proves, the track has lost none of its' intoxicating powers. As on the original 12", you'll find the vocal version on the A-side. This saunters between periods of spacey, arpeggio-driven dreaminess and more traditional Italo-disco fare, with strong female vocals coming wrapped in darting electrofunk synths and oodles of Mascara-clad atmosphere. Arguably even better, though, is the flipside Instrumental, which is closer in tone to a DJ-friendly New York style Dub. It rises and falls in all the right places, occasionally dropping into delay-laden drums for added dancefloor pleasure.

  4. Perfume Advert - "Dyn Horizontal Multiburst"
Review: Cong Burn is a new label that features a range of producers plying a more interesting twist on the standard deep house formula. Take opening case in point Haddon, who uses oodles of processing to create a slippery, shifting tripper out of "Not Coming To The Club" and instantly stepping aside from the run of the mill milieu. Howes then pops up with the snaking, ultra-deep electro abstractions of "Untitled". L Pearson is in a particularly cheeky mood with the scratchy micro-sampling fun of "PSR1170", calling to mind the crafty chops of Paradroid et al, and then Perfume Advert book end the release with some beautifully horizontal deep house for the subliminally minded to revel in.

Review: Emotional Rescue continue to mine hidden corners of esoteric music to bring your rarified delights in a freshly mastered form. This time the label has turned to cult Spanish label Auxilio De Ciento, who have been quietly picked up by more tuned in heads for their excellent new wave, synth pop and industrial wares. La Caida De La Casa Usher present the most abrasive material on here, but largely it's a relaxed affair. You can lose yourself in the bubbling synthesizer goodness of Bene Gesserit and Danny Alias, or trip out to the pattering drums of Zazou, Nodland, Lema.

Review: Legendary musician, DJ and broadcaster Philippe Krootchey was a hugely influential creative whirlwind throughout the 70s and 80s in France. Founder of Love International, frequent Casablanca collaborator with the likes of Lizzy Mercier Descloux and Mathematiques Modernes and an active member of France's foremost gay rights groups, his political and creative messages were clear in every action he made. Originally released in 1984, "Qu'est Ce Qu'il" carries a strong anti-racial message with humour that worked so well he re-sang it English and it eventually became "Whatazzy". Flip for "Hot Voodoo Dub" to find his creative messages as a studiosmith were also very clear.

  1. Deep Inside (7:16)

Review: Interestingly, it's some 12 years since sometime Cocoon Recordings regular Daniel Stefanik released his first 12" on Moon Harbour. His latest aural assault for that label - the Leipzig producer's first release of 2017, curiously - is headed up by a track that shamelessly pays tribute to Hardrive's 1993 U.S house classic "Deep Inside". Stefanik utilizes ruthlessly chopped and looped samples of the original vocal, layering them over a sweaty, energy-packed rhythm track that's noticeably more riotous than your average tech-house jam. It's something of a restless late night banger, if truth be told. Normal service is resumed on flipside "Another Year", a locked-in roller blessed with some spacey electronic bleeps and a killer bassline.

Review: Next on Rhythm Section International is newcomer Mallard. Discovered by label boss Bradley Zero after being a dedicated regular at 'almost every RS dance since 2016', the South London based multi-instrumentalist makes a serious first impression with this debut EP. Mallard's productions demonstrate, in the words of the label itself 'a keen ear for groove with a level of musicality rarely heard in electronic productions.' The 20 year old has already developed a unique sound palette and prodigious production style set to make him a name we will be sure to hear more of. This EP, at once varied in tone and tempo is held together by a strong sonic identity and an overarching artistic vision. Mallard's first offering to the world via Rhythm Section is one to remember.

Review: Four years after the beginning of Heist Recordings, label heads Detroit Swindle deliver their fourth solo record for the label. On the Can't Hold It EP, they showcase their love for lush disco, analogue basslines and leftfield musicians. On the A side, the title track is a serving of funky disco loops that you've come to expect from the Dutch duo, while "Just Not Norma" features New Zealand nu-jazz hero Mark De Clive-Lowe: who adds some wicked P-funk vibes to this deep and dusty deep house excursion. On the flip, "Tamarindus Hollandicus" is the most energetic offering from the pair here, with its bouncy bass, neon-lit synths and tight rhythm patterns taking you into the stratosphere. But the remix up next; where they bring in NYC native Willie Burns is a remix that shows you their darkest side yet.

"Cashing In" is one of their most classic songs, a highly sought after track on original 7" fetches a small fortune on the collectors market. First recorded and released in 1973, it has all the hallmarks of a Leroy Hutson composition and an established audience that crosses the boundaries of northern, crossover and modern soul. Taking it back to 1989, Ultimate Force's "I'm Not Playing" catches a young Diamond D in full flow over a looped blues lick. Review: As he did to celebrate Claremont 56's fifth birthday, Paul "Mudd" Murphy has enlisted the help of the Idjut Boys to mark the passing of the label's first decade. This time round, the long-serving dub disco duo has put together a spellbinding, two-disc mix of specially commissioned material. Of course, they've gone to town, blending the label's 10th birthday tracks with oodles of dub delay, all manner of trippy effects, and a swathe of their own specially prepared dubs, DJ tools and re-edits. These intoxicating, mind altering versions are showcased in unmixed form on disc three, following two discs of horizontal Balearic bliss, slow-dance goodness and the impossible-to-pigeonhole antics of Can founder Holgar Czukay.

Review: When Roger Sanchez donned the Underground Solution alias in 1990 and released "Luv Dancin", the New York producer had yet to become a household name. The single, long considered one of the producer's finest moments, quickly became a deep house classic, with DJs quickly gravitating towards the rich, Nu Groove influenced grooves, twinkling electric pianos and choice disco samples of the "In Deep Mix". This timely reissue also includes the other tracks featured on the original Strictly Rhythm release, including the even deeper and more loved up Egotrip mix and the brilliant "Afterthought", which expertly combines the haziness of NYC deep house with the alien melodies and dub-influenced low-end of UK bleep and bass.

Review: How do you make a trippy, claustrophobic and mind-altering record even more out-there and atmospheric? Give it to Burial to remix, of course. Predictably, the shadowy producer does a superb job reworking Monic's undeniably baked "Deep Summer", offering up a version vastly different from the red-eye sporting original. While Monic's version sounds like "Mezzanine"-era Massive Attack after a fistful of anti-depressants, Burial's take wraps the original's hazy female vocal samples (talking about the sunrise, no less) around lilting, marimba style melodies and gentle, tribal beats that are mixed so low you can barely hear them. Throw in some sun-kissed guitar motifs and heaps of vinyl crackle, and you have a genuine downtempo delight.

Review: Hot on the heels of his Cold outing earlier this month, Bristol bewitcher Batu makes his debut on Hessle and marks their first release of their 10th year of business. Timing is everything... "Marius" ripples with an insistent broken drum pattern that's coded with latent funk and dubspace while "Of Court" creates even more room between the drums while maintaining the techno pressure. "Noseme" flips for a more subaquatic session where the beats adopt a more relentless rolling formation while the groove develops more of a dubby sensation. Finally "Don't" brings us back up the surface with a soft beatless thrust. Play safely.

It dishes out four trippy, dreamy jams with a classic house attitude. Starting off on the A side with the rolling/late night deep house of "Area 22" with its subtle acid flourishes. Review: Vinyl Only reach their seventh release with a fresh grip of lesser known producers bringing high grade grooves to the table. Bubbadog opens the 12" up in a woozy fashion with the warbling piano chords of "Goin' Round", capturing a time-slip mood that carries through to the dusty jazz soaked beat down of Minus The Majors' "Strole On Through". On the B-side, Alex Zuiev gets into an exotic, chiming, 80s-inflected mood on "Down By The River", creating a slow-burning dancefloor heater out of classic ingredients. Ugly Frankie finishes the EP off with the stripped down funk of "Your Ears Look Great".

Review: Mint Condition's choice of material to reissue is always on-point. It would be fair to say that Blake Baxter's "When We Used To Play", which was first appeared on Kevin Saunderson's KMS imprint back in 1987, is another inspired choice. While not quite as celebrated as other early Motor City jams produced by the "Belleville Three" (messers Atkins, May and Saunderson), the "Original Extended Version" boasts all the hallmarks of the then developing Detroit techno sound (think crunchy drum machine beats, restless cymbals, undulating bass and a smattering of sci-fi melodies). It comes accompanied by the obscure, electro-influenced "Bootleg Breakbeat Mix" (almost as good), a rolling and on-point Blake Baxter rework and a sweaty, Chicago style jack-track inspired by Ron Hardy's performances at the Music Box ("Body Work").

Review: NYC-based Bristol exile Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature has long enjoyed a good relationship with Futureboogie Recordings, having first provided remix services for the West Country label back in 2013. This, though, is still his first EP for Dave Harvey's imprint. His loose, groovy and jazz-flecked style of deep house naturally comes to the fore on warm and melodious opener "Born Lifted", while the slightly more driving, sample-heavy "My Life" recalls his early '90s work as Nature Boy. "What Isn't" is a dusty deep house producer's take on electro-tinged instrumental hip-hop (reflective of his '80s work as part of Massive Attack's Wild Bunch collective) while "Loving You More" cannily joins the dots between lo-fi deep house, Balearic dreaminess and classic jazz-funk.

"Anybody Out There" continues the big air guitar feels with gusto before flipping the trippy switch with the strange processed vocals midway. "Mousso Mousso" is a much more sultry affair with its light Afrofunk lace and air of French finesse while "JP Wave" finishes the affair with a shimmering dub twist. Bon voyage.

If anything, this belated follow-up for esteemed Finnish label Sahko is even better. Vincenzo begins with the farmyard animal samples, rolling tribal percussion, African chants and rich electronic bass of "Cabras No Elevado Quilombia", before chopping and looping a dusty old tango track on the mid-tempo house pulse of "Onna No Yujo". On the flip you'll find the low-slung, post-dubstep creepiness of "Haru", where exotic vocal samples drift across a sparse but heavy beat pattern, and the aural trip to Morocco that is "Excellent Drom".

Review: Overworld is key to the rise of Andras Fox this year, a soundtrack to a contemporary dance piece of the same name the Australian producer composed as A.R.T. Wilson and issued on limited cassette format and digitally back in April. Heavily new age in tone, the ten track composition was comparable to some of the early tapes issued on Mood Hut (think Jack Jutson's Mother Official). Due to popular demand the album has been licensed for a wider issue on vinyl by Growing Bag Records and the music eminently fits this new format. This edition features an alternate version of "Sarah's Theme (Air)" whilst the Sunday afternoon selectors out there will get plenty of mileage out of the sublime "Sun Sign Aries".

Review: The legendary Phil Asher (yes, he of Restless Soul fame) is a DJ, producer and an integral figure in London's dance music community over the last 20 years. He returns for the first time since 2015's Time & Space EP on Rekids, with a bit of help from buddy Dwala for UK based moreaboutmusic: who've released some fine grooves of late by the likes of Mike Dunn and Deep Space Orchestra. A side cut "Sparkle" (AJ's Dance) is a glorious serving of Detroit style hi-tech soul, reminiscent of "Jupiter Jazz" era Underground Resistance with its emotive and euphoric spaciness. On the flip is "Today's Tomorrow" which really brings the funk on this deep joint that's straight off of the mothership. Check it out!

Review: Mannheim minimal house imprint Sukhumvit (yes they're not actually Thai!) are back with another edition of their various artist EPs in the form of SOI 07. Acanalar are UK based DJ's/producers Benjamin Clarke and Connor Hillery who serve up the rolling and reductionist groove of "Project0009" on the A side, followed by newcomers Lost.Act & Mishel A with the stripped back and swinging tech house of "Lab". On the flip is Argentinian producer in Berlin Alexis Cabrera with the trippy afterhour mini-funk of "Escaramuzas" and fellow countryman Nektar Agu (Tied/The Untold Stories) with "Neosjetan".

Review: If you've ever wanted to own the soundtrack from classic 1999 movie The Matrix on vinyl, now's your chance. Remarkably, this coloured, double-vinyl edition marks the first time that the popular soundtrack album has been pressed to wax. While very much of its time - think the darker end of big beat fused with industrial techno and heavy rock - many of the tracks, especially those by Meat Beat Manifesto, Rob Zombie, Rob D and Lunatic Calm - have stood the test of time remarkably well. The album also includes some deliciously heavy cuts from Rammstein, Marilyn Manson and the Deftones, too, while the limited nature of the release makes it something of a genuine collectors' item.

Review: Previously spotted on Udacha and sharing an excellent LP with A.E.M., Dices has already demonstrated a knack for wonderfully delicate ambient compositions and off-kilter 4/4, and the goods just keep on coming via this stunning 12" for Rough House Rosie offshoot Pandora. "Part 1" is a wonderful opening gambit powered by lightly pattering percussion, while "Part 7" enlists the help of Nick Ossia to float off into the swirliest of liquid synth baths. Ossia is also on hand to help with the more abstract sonic shapes of "Part 5", while "Part 3" provides a wonderfully energised, drum-rich ending to a truly standout EP.

Review: Toulouse representing! Young Monty steps out for his debut 1985 release... And it's a bit of an occasion; he's the first artist to have their own EP on the label beyond Perez and his and Eprom's Shades project. Naturally he's delivered; "Hold Me Back" is deliciously space age and soulful, "The Underground Fable" is all about the highly-sprung steps and stark minimal shivers, "Spongy Conversation" continues the stark vocal theme over a grimy riddim that's not too far away from Commix at their finest while "The Savage Chase" takes us right down the roller rabbit hole with moody pressure and deep fog horn bass sweeps. Killer.

Review: Amsterdam's Apollonio-affiliates Makcim & Levi Verspeek collide to create a three-piece of sultry, slinked-out deep house. The finesse is real: "Bass Storage" sasses with a sense of dreaminess that's anchored by some (as the title hints) serious low end grunts, "CDV" is a special dedication to the most roboticised of souls with its angular but sexy drum funk while the brilliantly-titled "Blorpflap" closes the show on a freaked out 23rd century P-funk odyssey. Stupidly hot.

Review: The second 12" on the Rye Wax associated West Friends label comes from shop regular and occasional Rhythm Section International sort FYI Chris. In keeping with the imprint's desire to "fill your bags with the strangest pingers", Spirit Animal is arguably the producer's most interesting and diverse release to date. While the deep and woozy vibe of his deep house productions is evident throughout, this is variously blended with tropical dub disco (low-slung opener "Captain's Patilla"), the sticky, feverish pulse of Ghanaian percussion (Afro-house shuffler "Dance Bebey") and, on standout closer "Silk", both Idjut Boys style late night dubbiness and swirling, off-kilter sample-house.

Review: Total funk oblivion from one-off offenders Chuck Womack & The Sweet Souls circa 1970. Two sides, one super-tight groove; the original pressings of "Ham Hocks & Beans" have fetched a tasty $600 as recently as 2015. Press play and hear why; slinky, soulful and loaded with some serious light-handed breaks, both the vocal-led A-side and instrumental B-side kill it with class.

Review: Following his "Late Night Sessions" earlier this year Detroit's Brian Garrett returns to Trouble Kids with another generous helping of straight up strutting house music. From the full-frontal jacks of "Ounce Is" and the divine vocal-looping "Say Summin'" we slip into something more boompty and comfortable on "Aquarius Swing" and tantalise our senses of "Life Of Love" before shedding more layers until we're writhing in otherworldly groove nudity on the re-shuffle. "Same Feelings" closes on a juicy Jersey garage warm organ vibe. Feeling it?

  1. Let Your Light Shine (3:28)
  2. Somebody Help Me (2:31)
Review: Athens of the North founder Euan Fryer has described Willie Dale's "Let Your Light Shine" as "one of the best discoveries in the last 15 years". Only five copies of the original 7" single have surfaced to date, with the most recent changing hands for eye-watering sums of money. You can see why Fryer was so excited by "Let Your Light Shine": while rooted in both funk and soul, the track also draws heavily on psychedelic rock and the fuzzy, funk-rock fusion brilliance of Sly Stone. Original B-side "Somebody Help Me" is an altogether more laidback affair, with Dale offering impassioned and melancholic lyrics over a psychedelic era take on old rhythm & blues ballads.
