  1. Standing Right Here (6:58)
  2. Make Me Believe In You (9:15)
Review: A reissue of the 1977 classic by the NYC born gospel singer Melba Moore. Moore is the daughter of saxophonist Teddy Hill and R&B singer Bonnie Davis. She is responsible for such hits as "Read My Lips", "Keepin' My Lover Satisfied" and "Love's Comin' At Ya" among many others. This McFadden & Whitehead production first appeared on the A Portrait Of Melba LP and is one truly timeless, feelgood soul jam: it's perfect actually! On the flip we've got the more saucy and upbeat disco-funk infused "Make Me Believe In You" which appeared originally on 1979's Dancin' With Melba. Moore was inducted into the Official Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame on October 4, 2015, in Detroit.

Review: In 1981, Macedonian singer Arian Krliu headed over to New York to record a bilingual album of disco and boogie treats. The resultant set was self-released in relatively limited qualities and has since gone in to become an in-demand item amongst collectors of global disco and synth-pop sounds. This officially licensed reissue stretches the album's original eight tracks over two slabs of wax to allow for a louder, DJ-friendly pressing. Record one boasts Arian's English language recordings; the sumptuous AOR disco of "Your Love Makes Me A Winner", the punchy, horn-heavy disco-bogie brilliance of "Can't Say Goodbye", the K.I.D style dancefloor badness of "Sure It's Funky" and blue-eyed soul of "Still Together". Over on disc two, you'll find Croatian language versions of the same tracks.

  2. Red Ken - "Big Love" (Big Four Letter Word mix) (6:17)
Review: Psychemagik love Fleetwood Mac. Their love is so enduring that the dusty fingered editors/DJs/revered record collectors have gone so far as to found Fleetmac Wood, a club night dedicated to the work of Fleetwood, Nicks, McVie and the various other manifestations, where anything goes so long as it's Fleetwood Mac related. Their remix of "Dreams" has been getting playtime at the night - and by other well regarded DJs - and finally makes an appearance on this limited 12". What's immediately noticeable about the Crystal Visions Remix of "Dreams" is how much they add to the track without messing with the original's essence - it's also a lot more inventive than Psychemagik's 2009 edit of "Everywhere" which shows how far they've come in three years. Flip over for a great extension of Juno's favourite Mac moment "Big Love" from AOR Disco's Red Ken.

Review: Taking brains to other dimensions for well over a decade now, Maceo returns to wax for the first time this year with two certified brain-melters: "The Tesseract" tackles the complexity of the fourth dimension with a classic rolling drum arrangement wrapped in perplexing layers of bass. "5th Dimension Groove" turns your brain inside out even more as the running groove swoops to sub-frequency levels before a stark bass roar enters the fray and turns everything on its head. Maceo has never been one-dimensional.

Review: Berlin's Nick Beringer (Rubisco/Wax Classic/Kase Kool) is back on on Greek DJ Stassy's Taverna Tracks with another banging EP! It dishes out four trippy, dreamy jams with a classic house attitude. Starting off on the A side with the rolling/late night deep house of "Area 22" with its subtle acid flourishes. It's then on to the title track, which rounds off the A side in style on this sexy, swing fuelled minimal house jam. On the flip, jazzy/hip hop inspired broken beat house is the order of the day, on the quite Money $ex indebted "Slack Joint" while "Airdrop" is the EPs finest moment: this hypnotic and sunny tech house journey really ticks all the boxes. The Foundation is set!

Review: The latest Ten Thousand Yen release is a vinyl only affair from label founder Doc Daneeka that has summer on its mind and certainly sounds like it was a hoot to produce. Samples abound across the two tracks, with "Never Wanna Lose You" standing out for the manner in which Daneeka gleefully toys around with classic breakbeats and freestyle vocal hooks, squeezing in plenty of loops and filters along the way. One for the drunken, messy moments deep into a night in a basement. On the flip "Got Me" is as good a slice of disco-infused house music as you'd expect from a Soundstream record. Great fun.

  4. Andromeda (feat Zanias) (8:09)
Review: Not to get all hyped-out, but it appears that Candela Rising is quietly racing up quite a stellar catalogue. Just to name drop a few peeps, they've put out an impressive run of techno bullets from the likes of Lakker, Eomac, Manni Dee, and now the mighty Ancient Methods, among others. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat off! Michael Wollenhaupt is now manning the iconic techno project on his own, but if this new EP is anything to go by then it sounds like he's got it under control. From "Swallow The Screw" all the way to "Andromeda", which features the fledgling Zanias, this is high-tech rave gear with a noticeable industrial edge. In fact, the 4/4 elements almost go unnoticed amid the ocean of distortions and screeching power electronics. Of course, you'd still wanna bang this out at 4am on a dancefloor, but it's the sort of techno that the noise heads will find undoubtedly rewarding.

  1. The Basement Is Burning (9:00)

Review: Next up on Aus Music is the welcome return of a label regular: Marquis Hawkes. Having released four EPs on Will Saul's label thus far, he makes his return in the form of these blazing, floor-focused two tracks which sit neatly with previous outings on the label. "The Basement Is Burning" takes its name from the time of an electrical fire in the artist's home, which resulted in him and his family being evacuated from a fifth floor balcony. This soulful and life affirming classic house jam is geared for some sure hands in the air moment, with its addictive church organ melody, tough rhythm patterns and evocative strings all doing the business proper over its glorious nine minute duration. On the flip "Tower Block Boogie" is a tough and funky hard house jam, fuelled by dusty/overdriven drums and hypnotic disco loops that are filtered to perfection.

Review: New York City's Francis Harris and Parisian Anthony Collins return as Frank & Tony with the Odes EP. This will be the final collaboration on their esteemed Scissor & Thread imprint. Kicking off proceedings with the classic, Windy City deep house sound of "Procession" which will hypnotise you in evocative style. The title track up next is truly bittersweet and melancholic; taking its cues once again from Chicago legends like Larry Heard or DaRand Land. Speaking of which, the latter is up next for a collaboration with the pair on B side offering "This Time" where the Deep4life alumnus injects some truly breathtaking and seductive deepness into the track which compliments their dusty rhythms and smoky synth textures. Finally, "Surface Prelude" is the EP's most optimistic moment; this uplifting jam is perfect to play as the last track, right as the sunlight creeps in through the blinds up at that Bushwick loft party on Sunday morning.

Review: Well over two years has passed since the release of Keeping The Legacy, a compilation style EP featuring tracks inspired by "the classic sounds from Chicago, New York and Detroit". This belated follow-up begins with something rather special: a fine Jorge Caiado 'Morning Dub' of lesser known Abacus and Chez Damier hook-up "Closer". While it boasts their usual chunky, groovy bottom-end, the mix also makes great use of a yearning, cyclical electronic melody. Elsewhere, James Duncan delivers the hazy deep house bump of "416 Zone (Dub Mix)", Jacksonville laces dreamy, drifting chords over a killer bassline and heavy percussion on "Twilight Industries", and Satore reaches for the cowbells and Gwen Guthrie vocal samples on the disco-influenced throb of "Keep On".

Two sides shrouded with his signature eastern haze, "Ominous Shanti" sees the horns gradually melting in the heat while the intricately laced percussion holds the groove together. "Black Enchantment" lollops with more of a new soul step as lilting horns rise over a bubblesome strolling bassline before switching into a deliciously cosmic finale. Grab it while it's hot.

Review: Out Of The Blue, Phil Mison's first compilation for some time, was apparently inspired by his first few trips to the White Isle of Ibiza, and specifically the unlikely set of circumstances that led to him filling in for Jose Padilla at Cafe Del Mar. Musically, it's reflective of the story, joining the dots between impossible-to-find rarities (see the loved-up instrumental jazz-rock of "Jelly" by The Cactus Rose Project and the life-affirming fusion business of Christoph Spendel Group's "Forever", for starters), huggable Balearic synth-pop, flamenco-inspired sunset gems, and a smattering of head-in-the-clouds Italian dream house killers. Given Mison's heritage and status as one of Balearica's top selectors, it's perhaps unsurprising that Out Of The Blue is undeniably brilliant.

Review: The reviews for Goldie's first album in nearly 20 years have largely been positive, with some critics calling it a triumphant return to form. The Journey Man naturally features sweeping, classical instrumentation, but there's nothing as self-indulgent as the fare featured on 1998's patchy Saturnz Returnz. What's perhaps most impressive about the album, though, is the ease in which Goldie flits between different styles of drum & bass - dancefloor darkness, jungle revivalism, liquid funk, and so on - while working with a wide range of collaborators (Ulterior Motive, Swindle, Jose James, Natalie Williams, Terri Walker). This "deluxe" edition expands the set even further, stretching it out from two discs to three, via the addition of a CD of superb instrumental interpretations.

Neither hamstrung by their former glories nor keen to let said guitar abandon drown their melodies, 'Weather Diaries' is a feast of amp-destroying garage thrills and celestial voyages, and this disarmingly youthful sounding bunch are equally adept at both.

Review: Derry boys Queen & Disco return for a third outing on their eponymous label, serving up two gently straightened out edits tweaked for peak-time plays. On the A-side you'll find the rising strings, rich orchestration and celebratory vocals of "Let's Go All The Way", a guitar solo-laden disco bumper tailor made for party-starting fun. Arguably even better is "Just Be Yourself", a high-octane disco thumper that's a little more loopy and house-friendly in construction. It sits somewhere between the thumping loop jams of Soundstream, the riotously camp thrust of Sylvester, and the "drum machine added" edit thrills of Boogie Cafe boss man Jimmy The Twin.

Review: Having originally surfaced on DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted House label back in 2011, the appropriately named Bleak brings his stern Ekko track back into focus on his own Naura label, inviting two titans of contemporary techno to do the remix business on the track. First up is Skudge, who get things marching at an urgent pace with their usual knack for ear snagging sonic hooks and unrelenting kick drums. Meanwhile Markus Suckut makes a more weighty interpretation of the track, slowing the tempo and adding all kinds of sub pressure to make for a truly killer workout. As a bonus, the original track is present on the B-side in all its mean-tempered glory.

Review: When they first made their mark in the late 1990s, Berlin duo Porter Ricks was renowned for making Basic Channel style dub techno. Following their reunification and return to action last year, the veteran production duo has largely delivered material that's more forthright, creepy and dystopian in tone, if still accompanied by the kind of mind-altering sound design that's long marked out dub techno productions. Anguilla Electrica, their first album since 1999, continues this trend, ambling between glitch-laden, industrial-themed dub techno workouts, apocalyptic club techno, hypnotic, drone-influenced dancefloor positivity, and more experimental moments that defy neat categorization. The results are wholeheartedly impressive, making Anguilla Electrica one of the best comeback albums of recent times.

The Goodbye Miss Misanthropy EP is loaded with curveball house music of the highest order, with "Remind Me Of Dancing" particularly standing out thanks to Jyroscope's inspiring vocal turn. Review: These Aussie psych-mayhem merchants have set their sights on releasing a terrifying five records this year, and only a fool or a cynic would deny they're capable of it, given the freewheeling abandon and hell-for-leather chutzpah they've delivered on each of their ten outings to date. Whilst the majority of bands habitually claim to be pursuing a uniquely uncompromising vision, few are as guileless and full-on as the outfit we feast on via 'Murder Of The Universe', one completely unafraid to deal with four-part sagas concerning Tolkein-esque mythical monsters and Japanese cyborgs via a kinetic and combustible melange of garage fury and third-eye-massaging acid visions. Who knows where King Gizzard are heading, but right-thinking folks will be willing them to keep their foot firmly on the accelerator.

  3. Nitrogen (6:05)
  4. Thirty Four (5:27)
Review: Eric Cloutier launched Palinoia last year with a single of his own, but now he's turned to Berlin mainstays Exercise One to lay down some of their trademark psychoactive machine music for the second installment. "Heptagon" sports metallic synth notes clanging out over a freight train of techno drums, while "Prism" takes a more nimble approach to twist out its various synthetic squeaks. "Nitrogen" is a warmer proposition, placing the emphasis on chords and melodies while still aiming squarely at the dancefloor. "Thirty Four" finds the duo veering away from the 4/4 dogma to deliver a captivating kind of broken techno in a soundscape loaded with tension and ominous empty space.

  2. Different From The Rest (5:24)
  3. Getting Dark (6:01)
Review: Demuja is in a Rush, so we'll make this review short and to the point. The EP sees Salzburg-based deep house man Bernard Weiss continue his recent rich vein of form, which has included outings on RTCT and Muja. On the A-side you'll find the pleasingly chunky beats, held organ chords, toasty bass and sampled blues vocals of "What's Up Buddy", a floor-friendly concoction with enough haziness to please the heads amongst us. Flip for the vintage Prescription Records style goodness of "Different From The Rest" and the woozy warmth of analogue-rich West Coast deep house shuffler "Getting Dark" (which, to be honest, isn't actually that dark).

Review: Surprisingly, Produced With Love is Dave Lee's first album of original productions under the Joey Negro alias for nearly 20 years. Predictably, it's a fine set, as you'll discover by checking the clips of CD1. This time round, Lee has wisely chosen to indulge his disco and boogie influences, delivering tracks that tiptoe the fine line between stylistic authenticity and the feel-good house music he's long been known for. Highlights include a new disco version of classic Diane Charlamagne hook-up "Must Be The Music", the Arthur Russell inspired "Distorting Space & Time" and a fine, electrofunk style cover of Kraftwerk's "It's More Fun To Compute". Disc two boasts a swathe of bonus material, including a string of sublime remixes and Lee's superb productions for Peven Everett and Alex Mills.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Jah Wobble's biography is a long and winding one, and he's achieved a lot both in collaboration with others and of his own accord. Emotional Rescue know a talented auteur when they hear one, and in the case of Wobble they've chosen to shed light on one of his less well documented phases, when he started his own label called Lago. Drawing on recordings made between 1981 and 1985, The Lago Years is a captivating listen that touches on post punk and no wave all the way through to dreamy psychedelia and the kind of world music Wobble would become so well known for later on in his career. An essential collection for any lovers of leftfield music and mysticism.

Review: Mid 70s soul and funk from the little-known Walter Jenkins. Originally pressed on Apollo off-shoot Faderkat, original pressings have been known for pass hands for a few hundred and it's not hard to understand why: "Back In My Life" is a swooning soul ballad with enough strut to move a floor while "Funky Walk (The Money Talk)" is a pumping northern crossover with big band leader style orders from Walter himself. Shake your money makers.

Review: Don Ron Trent re-engages his deep dub systematics with BPS. There are two definitive sides to this story: "Red Cloud" plunges into a swampy, pensive stomp loaded and laced with heavy atmospheres and washes of heady percussion while the "BPS Dub" plays the consummate foil with a roomy, mystic rebuild that maintains the pressure in a soft focus hazy form. As always with Trent, the quality is benchmarks beyond mere mortals' grasps.

Review: A Merle Travis blues standard, as laid down by the one and only BB King in 56. A homage to the coal miner with strong clear lyrics and vibrant horns, the original was one of many breakthrough's BB made in the 50s. It was also futureproofed for Belgium's popcorn sound with a bold brass version that's loaded with so much swing you almost forget its deep deep blues. Records like this are what 45s are made for.

Review: Deep house explorer Jay Ka has already scored releases on Phonogramme, Saft and other labels, but now he reaches even further with a turn on Spain's finest, Minuendo Recordings. It's just the right kind of smooth, undulating dance music that can slip into all manner of situations from the beach bar to the after party. "They Like To Do" is a wonderfully meditative jam laced with vocal licks and hazy chords, but even when things get spicier on "Unknown Uniform" the brittle drums and acid lines seem to blur into a woozy reverie that matches the rest of the EP. Watch out for Dubbyman's remix of "Untitled", which feeds some irresistible rolling drums and piano chords into the mix.

Review: As Silent Servant slowly winds down his respected Jealous God imprint, we have been treated to some bold releases by the likes of Crimes Of The Future main man Black Merlin, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe's Phase Fatale and the legendary Oliver Ho as Broken English Club. Here, the Northern Electronics and Posh Isolation affiliated Jonas Ronnberg aka Varg appears now: unpredictable as ever but always delivering the goods in fine fashion. The A side's highlight is the pummelling full throttle industrial techno onslaught that is "Skrrt (Music Made To Listen To In A RS6)" that will truly throw you into a corner. On the flip, the absolutely roaring hypnotic techno epic entitled "Last Dance (I'll Hold You Till We Die)" features the most tripped out modular sounds this side of Mike Parker, plus its overall production is reminiscent of the seminal, trance inducing sounds of the Italian Zooloft imprint: but with the worthy addition of some harsh snares: pretty damn brilliant if we do say so ourselves!

  1. Something Else (11:22)
Review: Mystery label Digwah debuted in the summer, with a soul soaked trip into minimal techno territory that was supported by Ricardo Villalobos, amongst others. Like that 12", Something Else is a single-sided, hand-stamped affair, with no information given about the identity of the producer (or producers) involved. This cut retains the late night techno vibe of the original, but with percussion and whizzing electronic noises that recall classic tech-house from the likes of Swag, Rob Mello and David Duriez, rather than Berghain-friendly minimalism. The subtle, party-minded approach is confirmed by the use of cut-up vocal samples from Cuba Gooding Jr's "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend", which also featured on Nightmares On Wax's 1990 bleep techno anthem, "Aftermath".

Review: Folamour was responsible for one of the dreamiest, most colourful deep house records of recent times - the brilliant Shakkei EP on All City - so hopes are naturally high for this excursion on the producer's recently launched FHUO Records. He kicks off proceedings with the thrillingly addictive "Very First Touch", where dreamy pads and looped party samples cluster around a snappy, jazz-fuelled house groove, before ratcheting the energy levels up a notch or two via the rubbery slap bass, driving drum machine beats and warm Rhodes chords of "Alerte a Babylon". In between, you'll find Pravis' "L'Estaque", a stomping deep house floor-burner blessed with some seriously good, jammed-out electric piano solos.

Review: Razor 'N' Tape's two previous servings of Dimitri From Brooklyn edits (and, yes, they're the work of legendary DJ/producer Dimitri From Paris) were both must-haves, so hopes are naturally high for this third volume. Predictably, the disco-loving Frenchman is on fine form once more, laying down a trio of interpretations that breathe new life into classic jams. While the A-side "Kettle America" (say it phonetically) is something of a cheeky treat - impressively chopping between hard-wired guitar riffs and the original track's bustling disco groove - it's "I Knead You", an end-of-night, lights-up version of a Sylvester cut that smartly emphasizes the song's gospel origins, that really sparkles. "Without Rob", a harmonica-heavy rearrangement of a well-known favourite, completes another essential package.
