  1. Abeja (4:47)
  2. Black & Decker (4:53)
Review: First up on the freshly minted Olindo label is a tasty, two-track 7" single from Venezuelan outfit Monsalve Y Los Forajidos, which is fronted by bassist Raul Monsalve. A-side "Abeja" is a punchy chunk of musically expansive Latin funk, with jazz style horn and woodwind solos wrapping themselves around a killer groove and righteous chanting. It sounds like the kind of cut that will excite both funk DJs and jazz dancers. Flipside "Black & Decker" sees the band move further towards Azymuth style South American jazz-funk territory, with killer guitar and organ lines crowding around a shuffling Afro-Cuban rhythm track.

Review: Theo Parrish's long out-of-print debut album, First Floor, has become something of a must-have for collectors. Originally released in two parts way back in 1998 by legendary UK label Peacefrog, it contains some of the Detroit-based producer's finest work. This second installment is packed with highlights, including the loose, loopy deep house funk of "Electric Alleycat", the ultra-deep, Nina Simone sampling haziness of "Sky Walking", and the superb, Moodymann-does-Chicago Acid shuffle of "Heal Yourself & More". It also contains the thrilling "JB's Edit", a dusty, loopy cut-up of an old James Brown tune with tried-and-tested party-starting credentials.

Track one, Leave me cold.
shuffled drums leaning on soulful chords & live Rhodes, cut up vocals and bottom end baselines all comes together for a solid slab of 90's house & garage

Track Two, Jazzy '99
Direct nod to the UKG days, Nice 'n' Ripe, Grant Nelson with those jazzy keys, catchy vocal stabs and slick basslines.

Track Three, Rhythm Of The Vibe?More 90's U.S vibes on this one, clubby bassline with trumpet hits and synth stabs.

Review: It's astonishing to think that Frak's Borft Records has now notched up three decades. The Swedish imprint remains as eccentric and essential as ever, as this label debut from inspired Norwegian oddball DJ Sotofett proves. By his standards, "Ol Pa Ibiza" and the stripped back "Ol Pa Klubb" are pretty straightforward, with the Sex Tags man laying ricocheting dub notes and percussion hits over a rock solid drum track and booming bassline. "Ol Pa SM-Art Bar" sees him channel the spirit of early British bleep techno and the darker end of Belgian new beat on a clandestine mid-tempo chugger, while "Drikkepause" is a quick-fire shot of ambience built around echoing bells. Finally, he heads for a dirty warehouse on the acid-laden, EBM informed sleaziness of "Nekta Ol Par City Club".

Review: The first record from the mysterious Monsieur Blue attracted plenty of favourable attention from the deep house and minimal fraternity when it dropped last year, and so the anonymous artist rolls around for a second bout with this sterling three-tracker. Deep and dubby pads meet with rock-solid grooves on the A1, while the A2 track strips things back to an insistent rhythm, emphasising the space in the mix. The B-side track meanwhile channels a funky energy into the spaced out headspace Monsieur Blue inhabits, completing a strong trio of club-ready trippers for the dreamiest of dancefloors.

There's naturally plenty to get excited about, from the piano-driven goodtime house grooves of Crackazat's floor-filling "What You're Feeling", to the boogie and jazz-funk inspired space-house of Opolopo's brilliant "Put Your Cap On". Sandwiched in between you'll find two Joey Negro disco workouts: his own extended 'Boogie Dub Extravaganza' version of the Sunburst Band style "Must Be The Music", and a nu-disco-meets-Italo-disco reinvention of "Stomp Your Feet" from Crazy P's Chris Todd under the now familiar Hot Toddy alias.

Review: Taken from her exceptional debut album Soul Run, Tanika's honeyed tones hit 45" for a special limited clear vinyl reissue. Already key highlights from her album and live shows, both show Tanika's true breadth... "Soul Run" is straight up contemporary business thanks to its dynamic drum arrangement, frenetic funk guitar elements and gospel backing while "Endless Chain" plays the role of a much more traditional R&B track that's backed, once again, by a warm, full-bodied backing chorus. And if you've got the album, you'll already know this. Jump on this now, it's not going to hang around.

This beautiful two-tracker is no exception as he flexes from his lavish synth boogie take on the Haywood-referencing "Out To Catch" to the slower-burning stomper "Me N U" that gradually smouldering into a raw funk groove fire with Booker T-style results. Review: Che "Chesus" Ahmed dons the now familiar Ear Jeffers alias and returns to Ten Thousand Yen for the first time since 2016's well-received Gloria EP. A-side "Mysteries" is something of a spacey, synth-laden affair, with fuzzy analogue synth lines and fizzing electronics clustering around a restless, densely layered house groove. If Kraftwerk made deep house, it would probably sound like this. Ahmed takes a different approach on the flip, successfully peppering a chunky, redlined rhythm track with jazzy Rhodes motifs, jazz-funk flourishes and a cleverly manipulated vocal sample. Loose and languid but also tough as teak, it's arguably the more ear catching of the two tracks.

Review: Studio Mody as we all know now is the alias of Vancouver's Hashman Deejay of Mood Hut and here he inaugurates new London label Counter 99, run by Going Good co-founder Salik. Starting off with the tough vintage house of "Tracking Down The House" which is dusty and warm as you like it, before "1017" (feat L EFA - remix) delves deep into the exotic with its hypnotic tabla drumming over celestial synths allowing you to drift far far away. On the flip the classic house sensibilities of "Senor Tommorrow" close out this fine EP in real style.

Review: The latest Glenn Underground record to get the reissue treatment could hardly be described as one of his best known. Originally, this double A-side excursion slipped out as a white label, promo-only affair way back in 2010, and has since become sought after amongst deep house collectors. It's easy to see why the original is such an in demand record, though; the 11-minute A-side "Moog Vibrations", in which the Chicago veteran jams with his Moog over a typically warm and loose deep house groove, is little less than superb. Flipside "Urban Flight To Atiner 7", a cosmic deep house excursion peppered with guitar style solos, stretched-out organ chords and bustling acid lines, is almost as good.

Review: It would be fair to say that Mr Fingers 2016 is something of an event release, at least for those who love deep house. While Larry Heard has kept busy - largely with remixes and reissues - this marks the first 12" release under his most famous moniker for over a decade. He begins in contemplative mood, fusing tumbling music box melodies, creepy electronics and nagging 303 lines on "Outar Acid", before laying down some typically blissful, atmospheric deep house on the wondrous "Qwazars". Flip for "Nodyahead", an effortless mixture of heavy dub-house bottom end, African-influenced percussion and moody late night refrains, and the ultra-deep, piano-laden bliss of "Aether".

"Red Light District" is as hot and illicit as the title suggests thanks to its prominent drums and heated horn work. Taking a break from releasing on their own label, Audino, Barbir, Louh and Nicola Kazimir have been invited to the evergreen Trelik to broach their music to a wider audience. It's likely that this first outing on Numbers - a single-track salvo pressed in limited quantities - will go the same way. It's typically of his analogue-rich, retro-futurist sound, with starry, Detroit-influenced synth lines and intergalactic melodies riding a virtual wave of drum machine hits and skittish cymbals. It feels like an early '90s British experiment in fusing the best of house and techno, but that's no bad thing. It's certainly bristling with late night positivity.

The experienced producer begins with the layered helium voices, bustling electronic melodies, alien noises and bouncy groove of "Tyrolien", before opting for a more bustling, bumping feel on the low-slung thrills of "Beat Street". Their edits aren't just your regular edits, they're reworks of quality soul and funk gems from the creme-de-la-creme of diggers' bags. For instance, the present number nine in the series features Vitamin C's lo-fi jam reworked by Blackish and Theo Thelonious Beats Gillespie, and the result is something extra special - a driving groove to satisfy for than one sort of collector. Ten-minute A-side "Movin" is an undulating disco treat built around a killer bassline, twinkling melodies, punchy orchestration and one hell of a female vocal. Review: East End Dubs' Eastenderz label has a thing for brightly coloured "splatter" vinyl. This split artist 12" is the imprint's third consecutive foray into the world of patterned wax, and looks set to be as popular as previous outings. Romanian producer Lizz handles the A-side, wrapping sustained note chords and jaunty electronics around a tactile, acid-influenced synth bassline and crunchy tech-house beats. On the flip, fellow label regular DoubtingThomas returns with the quietly impressive "Just Saying". A little more introspective than the A-side, the track features the winning combination of hypnotic, locked-in tech-house beats, woozy, Orbital-style chords and a bassline so rich and sugary that you might feel pangs of toothache.

The title track flutters with flighty electro breakbeasts and a weave of bright, hopefully arpeggios while "Eels" plays the consummate flip - slithering, shadowy, and worm-like in the way it develops, it pulls you in almost hypnotically. We return to the club-friendly beats as "Heal Me" concludes business with a smoky, dark room broken house aesthetic where the hi-hats and foggy pads and atmospheres do all the talking. Singular.

This is the height of modern electronica with immaculate sound design created with the cutting edge technology within its sonic architecture. The guy invented Ableton so go figure! Across its three auditory experiences you will plug into a stunning dimension. "Pio" features female:pressure founder Electric Indigo, in addition to studio assistance from the legendary Mark Ernestus. Mastering by Rashad Becker.

Review: It's been emotional... A year and a half since "Cosmic Temple 1" first landed, Italian legend Baldelli hits the sixth and final chapter of his series. Across the collection we've experienced some of his wildest ideas and inspirations and it seems he's saved some of the best for last. Don't be alarmed if you lose hair, hours of your life and your mind to the dubby eastern horns and cosmic bubbling 303 of "Taxon", the glam psych guitar jamboree of "Kevlar" and slap bass and sparkling synth syncopation of "33 VS 45". Long may Baldelli continue to don the dance in this esoteric way.

Review: Daniele Baldelli: Unquestionably one of DJ culture's longest-standing and furthest-thinking selectors drops the penultimate edition of his epic "Cosmic Temple" series with three more exception slabs of creative disco fusion. "Kata Sandi" is a cloud-leaping homage to the new romantic with just a dash of futurism with the trippy roboticised voice processing, "Esaedro" goes for a much more direct dancefloor approach with strong references to Moroder in the initial groove before daringly flipping to a much warmer, smoother jazz dynamic mid-way. Finally "Dioxide" closes the show on a freakier note as a beautifully processed human voice elements are twist inside out with an almost animated energy. Quintessential Baldelli.

Review: Sauce 81, aka Japanese RBMA alumni Nobu Suzuki, lays down two starlight stunners for a fine 7" debut on the Eglo label operated by Alex Nut and Sam Floating Points. "Natural Thing" is an unashamed, effortlessly hooky boogie jam that sits somewhere between the Funkadelic adventures of George Clinton and Kool & the Gang. "Bustin" meanwhile was originally made for Shing02's short movie of the same name. All slinky and whispering, it's like Samuel L Jackson whispering sweet nothings in your ear over a Faze-O track. Sexy.

Psych/Garage Rock
  1. Phantom Band/Linear Johnson & The Protons - "Rush Rush"
  2. Drums Off Chaos - "Drums Off Chaos"
Review:  Emotional Rescue presents a limited edition 7 with two songs that while not featuring on the Stollwerck Sampler reissue (ERC026), make a unique piece together as they are focused around the legendary drumming of Jaki Liebezeit.

Coming out of the European Free Jazz movement of the mid-60s, by the end of decade Liebezeit had moved towards psychedelic realms of rock and alongside Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and David C. Johnson formed the pioneering 'Krautrock' band, Can, in 1968.

His unique half-man, half machine metronome style was integral to the band's development and success throughout the following decade, a centre-piece to their sound as they became acclaimed international stars.

With the slow hiatus that engulfed Can in 1980 each member went on to work on new projects. For Leibezeit, this saw him team up with guitarist Dominik Von Senger to form Phantom Band. Releasing just 3 albums, each are highly regarded, encompassing an extension of latter-day Can's funky-jazz fusion with metronomic rock and experimenting with African rhythms.

Out of this came the Von Senger led Dunkelziffer (ERC007/8/9), all centered around the warehouse art spaces of Stollwerck. When the recordings for a special Sampler album bought together various artists and bands based in the space it was logical that Liebezeit would be heavily involved.

The Sampler's LP collage of post-punk, krautrock, dub and avant-garde music saw many unusual collaborations and for this limited 7 we present two such pieces, including the first ever recording of his drum ensemble, Drums Off Chaos.

First, Phantom Band team up with the unknown Linear Johnson & The Protons. A mixture of krautrock meets 50s USA rock'n'roll delivery makes for a wondefully odd combination, but the interplay between drums and Von Senger's guitar marry with R&B vocals to jovial perfection.

On the flip, here then are the beginnings of Liebezeit's Drums Off Chaos. Some 5 minutes of pure drumming explosions, this unique recording was not followed up for a further 20 years and is therefore, a special document in a comprehensive music career.

Review: Kon and Reflex combine for a cheeky 12" dedication to Michael Jackson for the fourth release on the Boston selector's increasingly on point Star Time label. Edit heaven or what? Reflex calls shotgun and reworks "PYT", amping up the vibe with much crisper drums and a whole lot more space present on that classic chorus drop. Meanwhile on the flip King Of Nothing takes "Get On The Floor" and gives it a modern day party refix complete with full-bodied dynamics, juicy slap bass and very cheeky disco bubbles in the background. Two more essential Michael Jackson edits to add to your collection.

  4. Gari Romalis & Lello Di Franco - "Luv Game" (6:53)
Review: In tribute to Record Store Day, the Diggin Disco Deep crew has put together what could be its tastiest 12" yet. Pressed on squeaky clean white vinyl, volume five in the series boasts cuts from some of the edit scene's best-loved talents. Lipski kicks things off with the blissfully wavy loops and languid Balearic house grooves of "Magical Luv", before the Silver Rider hits the mark via the softly spun nu-disco goodness of "Madness". On the flip you'll find EP highlight "When She Moves, I'm Moved" by Folamour, a sax-laden shuffle through deep house/disco fusion that sneakily pays tribute to a wedding party favourite, and the head-in-the-clouds deep house bump of Gari Romalis and Lello di Franco's "Luv Game".

Review: By 1988, South African producer "Om" Alex Khaoli had left his Afro-rock and Afro-soul past behind and was focused on his pioneering, synths-and-drum-machines-laden "bubblegum" project, Umoja. It was at this point that the ever-changing collective released 707, a mini-album whose four tracks all reached number one on the South African pop charts. As this Awesome Tapes From Africa reissue proves, it remains a fine set. We're particularly enjoying the bold synth riffs, elastic bass and breezy vocals of "Take Me High" and Fairlight-driven synth-pop wooziness of "Special Night", though eccentric opener "Money Money (Bananas)" - the set's most obviously South African sounding tune - is also brilliant.

Review: Tomoki Tamura and Tuccillo continue their partnership on this self-titled label that has already reached its sixth installment in just two years. The vibes are as wide-ranging and addictive as ever, providing all manner of housey delights for spinners to get their fingers busy with. "Funky Truck" is certainly the lead track on the EP in every way, holding down an impeccable shuffle and working a cool and deadly bassline towards a memorable lead line for a true slice of dancefloor alchemy. "Form Of Life" takes a more dreamy approach with its hazy chord stabs and gently rolling beat, and then "Verdict" rounds the EP off with a more tech-house minded jam to get shoulders shaking aplenty.

Review: Brassica is a trusted staple in the field of outboard house and techno, from time served on labels as esteemed as Dissident and Civil Music through to more recent outings on Feel My Bicep and others. Here The UK producer has been snapped up by Vivod for four tracks of deep analogue house and electro to warm the cockles a treat. "Coco Diaz" is a tightly wound jam that hinges on a broken beat, while "Splash" opens out into a blissful melancholic reverie. "Nothing To Say" amps up the sleaze and the acid a treat before "Blue Function" heads into more trippy soundtrack territory.
