Review: Released in 1974, during Strata East's golden era, Florida free drummer John formed his first pop-up troupe to record this one-off document. At points overwhelmingly funky (the seashore laps and waves of the sun-kissed "Ode To An Untitled Lady"), at others frenetic, chaotic and challenging (the time signature switches and spiralling horns on "Ra"), at others softly cinematic and dreamy (the abstract floatation sermon of the title track) Earth Blossom creates and exists in its own cosmos. Review: There's multi-talented, and then multi-talented. John Foxx is credited as singer, musician, artist, photographer, graphic designer, writer, teacher and lecturer, first making a name for himself up front of the new wave pioneers Ultravox (eventually handing the reigns over to Midge Ure), he presided over a period in the band's history that was less commercially successful, but incredibly forward thinking musically. This desire to keep pushing boundaries has rung true across Foxx's entire - and extensive - oeuvre, as Annexe, one of his solo efforts, goes to show. A pervading sense of darkness carries many of the tracks 'Dance With Me' being just one example, which contrasts the polished, highly synthesised productions, veering from the complex percussive patterns of 'Wings & A Wind' to the sparse, ghostly, near-spoken word operatics of 'A Woman On A Stairway'. Coldwave, some might call it, others would just say John Foxx.

Review: Among that coterie of visionary artists who left their bands to fly solo on the cusp of abundant riches and fame, John Foxx flew from Ultravox in 1980 to pursue his own creative vision. He quickly cemented his own style with albums like Metamatic and The Garden, but arguably delivered the fullest iteration of his sound on this 1983 album. The Golden Section straddles synth-pop and pop rock with ease, and it stands shoulder to shoulder with the greatest of the era. From his former band to Duran Duran and even moire niche concerns like Freur, this is the sound of the new dawn for pop music in the UK as the vast possibilities of synthesis were finally being understood.

Review: A founder member of Ultravox and all round synth pop godfather sits at the piano on his lonesome here, after many years of collaborating with Harold Budd and Ruben Garcia. The Arcades Project is a step backward into more refined, quiet artistry and minimal compositions with a candlelit late-night vibe and engaging and emotional flow. A text by Walter Benjamin formed part of the inspiration for the work and is "a sort of stroll through new ideas emerging from the city life of Paris in the 19th and early 20th century." The resulting sounds delightfully airy and inquisitive.

Review: London Conversation was the debut album from John Martyn which immediately showed what a unique musician he was. It came in 1967 was he was just 19 terras of age and was recorded in glorious mono at Tony Pyke's home studio in Dryburgh Road, Putney, over the course of one afternoon. The album is steeped in the folk tradition with excellent songwriting and lyricism and jazzy instrumentation, sitar and flutes bringing each piece to life. There are beautiful love songs like 'Back To Stay' and standout verses in 'Rolling Home'. His lovely voice and his accomplished guitar skills really stand this one apart, still, all these years later.

Pianist John Wright's Trio featured the man himself with Wendell Marshall and J.C. Heard. Between them, the three musicians very much embodied the more soulful end of the jazz spectrum that their native Chicago was known for across the 1960s. Never better was that captured on record than with Nice 'N' Tasty, which has never been reissued ever since its original release. It has been remastered from the original tapes and was his second album for the Prestige label. It's a sublime collection with his masterful piano at the centre of a suite of four originals and four standards which were all engineered by the great Rudy Van Gelder.

Review: Released in November 1995, 'Love Songs' was a collection of 18 of Elton's best-loved ballads and reached number four in the UK charts, remaining in the listings for 48 weeks. The vinyl version of the release was extremely limited and, as a result, original copies can go for hundreds on resale. Faithfully to the original, 'Love Songs' is now available on 2XLP fully remastered - a much-needed reintroduction for both the vinyl economy and fans who missed out all those years ago.

Review: With Elton John having played his final gig in the UK - that celebrated appearance at Glastonbury back in June 2023 - there will no doubt be increased interest in the few live albums he has released. This one, which stretches out an entire performance (complete with audience interaction and oddball banter) across two CDs, hails from 1972, when he was just becoming the iconic artist we know and love today. That means a mix of early, glam-rock era favourites as well as a clutch of cuts that still get masses of plays today - think 'Daniel', 'Your Song' and the riotous 'Honky Cat'. There's also a killer cover of 'Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On' that shows Elton at his barnstorming showman best.
